Conrad Avenue was loaded with classic trucks, cars, bikes and more for Movie Night at the SWT Lyceum Theatre.
Last Saturday, the second annual Eliminators Car Club movie night had close to 40 vehicles in attendance in front of the Gull Lake local theatre. For an hour before the evening film, American Graffiti, members of the community could come out and see the classics and projects that sparkled in the evening sun. During that time, Autumn House cooked up hot dogs for $5 apiece to raise operation funds.
Helping organize this year's show and film was Stuart Johnson, president of the Eliminators Car Club. American Graffiti was the film he chose to air this year, after viewing Dazed and Confused last summer at the event with everyone else.
"This is just something that, after having such a good turnout last year, we decided to, through our talks with the SWT Lyceum Theatre here, make this an annual event," said Johnson. "We're going to keep on doing this every year."
The film is a story centring around a group of friends on the last day of summer. It follows their night in town, as they quest to find a resolution to love, answers about their futures, attempt to impress girls and gangs, and win races both literally and metaphorically.
The money raised at the event will be going back into the SWT Lyceum Theatre. For the last year, the theatre has been undergoing a transformation via renovations. Slowly but surely, the money people have given them has allowed them to renew the space.
Cole Girodat, general manager for the SWT Lyceum Theatre, was busy prepping the new and improved ticket sales and concessions that have been recently renovated at the cinema.
"It's really great to see people in the big open space," said Girodat. "Everyone's commenting on it, everyone's loving it, and we hope that people continue to enjoy our space."
Totals have not been released at this time for how much money was raised, but all of it is going to fund the ongoing renovations of the SWT Lyceum Theatre.
The Eliminators Car Club's next event will be the Riverside Run in Elmwood Park on August 17.
